How to Engage Your Abdominals
Hey there Legends!!
Today i would like to talk to you all about using your “core” muscles properly
Are you using yours correctly?
After going to an Abdominal Training Seminar, I recognise that a large percentage of people doing crunches, or any form of a sit up, incorrectly.
The correct way that you should be performing a crunch would be to NOT, and I repeat NOT to push out your stomach when doing such an exercise.
By doing this, you are training your core to push out and stay big, not be strong and flatten!
By pushing out your stomach you are overstretching the abdominal muscles which could lead to hernias and abdominal separation, just to name a few.
If you really want to get that strong flat stomach and keep it strong, you will need to perform the crunch this way.
I would like you to lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Then I would like you to place one hand on your tummy and the other behind. The reason for this is so you can feel if your tummy is bulging out or not.
Before we perform the crunch I would like you to imagine that you have a string tied to your belly button on the inside and i am pulling it inwards from your back. Its not a sucking in of the tummy but an inward contraction. Once you have that feeling you are ready to perform a crunch. If doing this correctly, your hand shouldn’t rise and fall with every crunch performed.
Give it a go and let me know how you went.
