Train The Trainer

G’day guys! So, how often have you pulled up sore from a session and wondered what you could do to “thank” your trainer for it? Well Brad has it all sorted below!! This is such an important part of the year for us here at 4UBF, and this post is well worth a read. Please get planning so we can have an awesome session.

Train the Trainer – Your time to call the shots!

“If your actions inspire people to dream more, do more, learn more and become more, you are a leader”

                John Quincy Adams.

November 15th. Mark this day in your calendar!

This is the 3rd annual “Train the Trainer” event or TTT for short and I cannot wait for it. This is your opportunity to turn the tables on your trainer and call the shots as you put us through an incredibly gruelling and sweat-inducing workout. It is your chance to punish your trainer for the years’ worth of burpees, push ups, running, 300 drills and devastatingly boring planks. It is your chance to just sit back and relax while we do all the hard work for a 45 minute session. You can give us any exercise you desire, how many reps you desire or how for much time you desire. You are in control and you are the trainer for the day.

In previous years gone by, we have had red faces, sweat, heavy breathing, hands on hips or behind the head, swearing (Sorry for all my outbursts in years gone by) and even the occasional dry reach or projectile vomit. But as your trainers, we will have a big smile on our faces and politely ask for seconds as you put us to the test. But in the end, it is all in good fun and the people who have come to watch have been inspired, motivated and driven to push as hard as their trainers.

This will be my 3rd attempt at TTT. The boss man Mr Tim Morgan will also be lining up for his 3rd run. The Doctor will be in the house for his 2nd running of TTT (Tim Coombs for those who are new) and we have a couple of TTT rookies this year in Rhiannon Leake and Andy Carr who have no idea what they are in for. This for us is a very important day as we are all leaders and we strive to push and motivate each and every one of you and what better way to do that than to lead by example and show you all how hard we push through adversity and pain. We strive to show that each time we get knocked down, we get straight back up AND do it with smiles on our faces. This day is the day that we feel what you feel when you cannot do 1 more rep. When you are struggling to breathe and your heart feels like it is going to explode. When your legs feel like they are on fire or your arms feel like they are going to drop off. We go through exactly what you go through for us and yourselves each and every session.

I consider myself almost a veteran of the industry now and I have seen and know a lot of trainers. However, I do unfortunately see a lot of unfit personal trainers and a lot of weak-minded trainers out there too. Yes they are human and are entitled to live their lives the way they want to but I strongly believe that as a trainer, you have to lead by example. You have to know what that exercise feels like before you decide to drop it on your unsuspecting clients. If I give you 50 burpees, then I expect myself to be able to do 50 burpees. If you are going through all the mental anguish of a plank, then I have to know what that feels like for myself. True leaders lead by example and I strongly believe that all the trainers at 4 U Body Fitness will put their front foot forward at TTT and drive to motivate and inspire you to better yourselves.

This brings me to the challenge I put to all of you…Bring it!

Think of new ways to punish us. Think outside the box with exercises and challenge us any way you can. Although the previous years were tough and challenging, we did not break and we did not quit. Try your best to make us quit. I strongly doubt it can be done but there is no harm in trying. I have been looking forward to this all year after my struggle at the previous TTT and I am looking to come out on top. Try and find weaknesses in your trainer. Try to see if we are mentally strong. Give us exercises that you think we will struggle with. 2 years ago, I had poor core control and now that is a strength of mine so find new ways to make me quit. In the end, we will push and fight and scrap for every rep and fight to the buzzer at the end of the time period.

In previous years, there have been trainers who have been found out on the day by not preparing or training enough for it and have been a little bit worse for wear over the following days. Hopefully the other trainers read this and improve on everything before TTT. We want to put on a good show and make our clients proud of us just like we are all proud of your hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

After the session is over, although we will be physically and mentally drained, we will still be smiling because we like to practice what we preach and lead by example. After the session, we will be making our way over to the Go-Kart track in Dandenong for a little bit of fun and something new so I hope to see all of you out on the track. It’s your chance to see your trainer outside of your session time and get to know them a little bit more personally which I believe helps you guys push harder and trust us more in the future.

So come along and have a laugh at our expenses on the day and put us all to the sword…But remember…Karma is a bitch! So play nice children!!!
